Is it really free?
Yes. The free tier includes passive capture, the living timeline, rule-based classification, AI semantic matching, 5 projects, billing increment snapping, and CSV export. No trial period, no credit card, no account required. It's free forever.
Where is my data stored?
In a local SQLite database on your computer. Nothing is ever sent to our servers. We cannot see your activity data, time entries, or project information. When you uninstall, the data goes with it.
Does it track keystrokes or take screenshots?
No. Good Minutes only reads the active window title and app name. It never captures keystrokes, screenshots, clipboard content, or screen recordings. You can exclude specific apps and websites from tracking entirely.
How does the AI classification work?
Three layers: (1) keyword rules match window titles to projects, (2) a 23MB AI model on your machine compares activity to project descriptions by meaning, and (3) an optional cloud LLM writes professional billing narratives. Layers 1 and 2 are free and run entirely on your device.
What's the Pro trial like?
New installs get 14 days of full Pro access — AI narratives, unlimited projects, the works. After 14 days you keep the free tier with no disruption. No credit card needed to start the trial.
Can I use it with Xero?
Pro users can push time entries to Xero as draft invoices with line items, rates, and tax codes handled automatically. The integration uses Xero's standard OAuth flow — connect once and it just works.
What platforms are supported?
macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows (x64). Available as a direct download or from the Microsoft Store. Linux support is on the roadmap.
Can my firm use this?
Individual licences work great for solo practitioners. The Team tier (coming soon) adds multi-seat management, approval workflows, firm-wide reporting, and deep MatterX integration for legal practices.

Yes — Good Minutes is built by the team behind MatterX, the Microsoft-native legal practice management platform. Good Minutes started as the timer inside MatterX. Mid-development we realised we'd built something genuinely useful on its own — a real-time, on-device, AI-classified timeline that no other tracker ships — so we spun it out. Good Minutes is free forever for everyone, MatterX customer or not. If you do use MatterX, the two integrate one-click and your timer entries sync straight to your matters. If you don't, Good Minutes works exactly the same on its own.
